Liquorice comfits (often known as liquorice torpedoes) are a traditional British confection consisting of a chewy, mild black liquorice center coated in a hard, colourful sugar candy shell

. They are often flavoured with a hint of aniseed and have a distinct, nostalgic, and crunchy texture. 

Ingredients
While formulations can vary slightly by manufacturer (e.g., Taveners), the standard ingredients include: 

  • Wheat Flour (contains Calcium Carbonate, Iron, Niacin, Thiamin)

  • Sugar

  • Treacle (or Molasses)

  • Glucose Syrup

  • Modified Tapioca Starch

  • Liquorice Extract
